Here is what information I have, you may USE it, but do not pass it as your own thank you!
Counterfeit American Girl Dolls
Identifying an Counterfeit :
1) Face: Counterfeit American Girl doll have a scary looking features. Their eyes are rounder and larger than authentic dolls. Counterfeit?s eyes are lighter color and may sometimes appear more cloudy, than the Gotz.

2) The Counterfeit doll that are Lindsey, and Kit have small tiny freckles than the more profound darker and rounder version of American Girl dolls.

3) The hair: on all counterfeits is rough, has a different color shade than the authentic dolls. The wigs appear more full and thicker, unlike the American Girl which wigs are thinner. The hair on the counterfeits may also have a odor, not all dolls carry this, but if there is an odor, washing is recommended.

4) The face: and limbs of the counterfeits is made of plastic, unlike the good vinyl that American Girl company uses. The plastic vinyl has a smoother touch. You can squeeze the counterfeit?s limbs, while the authentic dolls vinyl is harder to squeeze.

5) The Body: the counterfeits body is thinner and less light than the authentic American Girl dolls. If you have a Lindsey on one hand and a counterfeit Lindsey on the other, you can feel the difference. The counterfeit weights less.

6) Body Tag: All American Girl counterfeit body tags say American Gril, instead of American Girl.

7) Counterfeit?s legs are too close together and are hard to sit the doll or even have them stand alone. When sited, counterfeit dolls spread too far apart and the doll looses balance.

8) No dissection as of yet. I do not plan to take Nora or Katie apart.

9) There are also counterfeit American Girl outfits, hangers and bags. All the counterfeit outfits are sewn badly and their American Girl tags are sewn not correctly. (see demo tag)

10) Best way: If you see a spooky looking AG, then turn around and RUN!!!!!

You can squeeze the counterfeit?s limbs, while the authentic dolls vinyl is harder to squeeze.

At least with my fake Molly and Lissie, I cannot squeeze their limbs. And my two are just as heavy as the genuine AGs. So there are differences out there, even among the fakes!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Number 5 in my case is very, very true! But number 6 and 7 are not. My counterfeit can stand, sit, and be posed, and yet she still can keep her balance. Sure, her limbs maybe a little lose, but that?s just from extra love from her previous owner.

The body is clearly NOT authentic AG, but the tags say this exactly:

"Made in China Exclusively for American Girl (R) 2008," 2008 is written to the right side of the tag were it has been sewn on, "Middleton, WI 53562"
This is EXACTLY what it says! At first I thought some one could have gotten it of a real American girl doll and sewn it on them self?s, but it doesn't at all look that way.

Don't get me wrong, I love this doll, especially the rare fake part. But I want to know if anyone has seen this too- or is it just me?

ETA: Her eyes are not big and buggy like the other fakes.

The eyes on my fake Felicity and Molly, although obviously not authentic AG, are not nearly as bug-eyed as Ria's Kit and Nora. There are definitely differences out there, even among the fakes.

And my two dolls, like Ria's, don't stand well!
